GUIDE FOR NEW CHRISTIANS  Part  1                                                          2004 2008 2017 Pastor John F. Hunter Used by permission

1. Salvation: Now that you are saved, you are called by God to be a part of the greatest operation in history, but first we need to review our understanding of Salvation, and the responsibility to share the Good News with others. If God made you, then it is He alone who knows why, and He alone has the authority to give you purpose, meaning, hope, and direction for your life. A person is not saved by getting all excited and shouting. A person is not saved by being baptized. A person is saved by obeying the words of Holy God who made him/or her, and by believing in the only perfect way of salvation that God your maker provided. How can you know for certain you are saved?

We believe God used spiritual men in the past to write down for us all of His truth in His words, the Bible. We can be sure of our salvation, because we know God’s words about how we are saved.

Because all of us have sinned, we all need to be saved or redeemed. Do you know anyone who is perfect? Of course not! God and heaven are all that is pure and holy. God is completely pure and right. God will not allow anything contaminated with the rot and stink of sin to enter into His presence. God and heaven are completely pure, holy, and perfect.

When an apple is rotten, do you keep it with the good apples? No, you throw it away, so it doesn’t contaminate the entire barrel of good apples. Bad apples will contaminate the good apples, and they will all rot. Sin is anything you do that is wrong. Anything you do that is not right, separates you from the right-ness of God. That is why mankind must be thrown away. In order to enter heaven, we must be pure and holy in the presence of God. All people have sinned against God, and the wages of sin is death. But God was not willing to just let us all be thrown away into the fires of Hell, so God came to be with men on earth in the human form of Jesus to pay our debt Himself with His own suffering and with His own blood, and to die in our place. He came to redeem us, and restore us. God, who made us to begin with, is the giver of all life, but the contamination of sin removes us from God’s gift of life.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus was God, who came to earth in the form of a man. Jesus was born without an earthly father, because He is the seed of God, not of man. But He became completely human to experience human temptation, pain, and suffering.
