Respecting Your Body: Part 10 of 12

Respecting Your Body                 A Biblical Study Part – X

by John F. Hunter, author of Living The Christian Life

If you put good, fresh, and clean apples in with contaminated and rotting apples, the good apples will also become contaminated and rot. Other people are also watching you. You are influencing others by the example they see in you. Some of them are younger than you, but want to grow up to be just like you. Your actions and choices affect their future too.

You may have to work next to, and deal with someone at your school or job that is not really the kind of person you want to be, but you don’t have to go home with them, or stand around talking with them after school, or in the hall between classes. You don’t have to go to a movie with them. You will gradually “buy into” the moral and ethical values of the people you associate with on a personal level every day, and call your friends. Everyone should know and respect the difference between personal relationships and professional relationships.

1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV) Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

Teens who hang out with friends who smoke, will eventually smoke, destroying their lungs, heart, and poisoning the blood supply which carries life giving oxygen to their bodies and brain. Once you start, you may be addicted for the rest of your life.

If your friends do drugs, which causes permanent brain damage from the first dose, it is only a matter of time before you begin to rationalize that it can’t be all that bad if my friends are doing it. If you socialize with Veterinarians, it will only be a matter of time before you enroll in Animal Science classes. So it’s very important to select your friends wisely.

1 Corinthians 15:33 (GW) Don’t let anyone deceive you. Associating with bad people will ruin decent people.

The wrong crowd is made up of scavengers who don’t care about you, even though they say “We’re your friends”, they are really using you to get what they want. The basic things users want to use you to get, are money, sex, alcohol, drugs, power, fame, and political power. they are not true friends, and will throw you away if you can’t get for them what they want.

Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
